Our Story / How We Met

"She had me at Foosball..." is how Andrew likes to describe our meeting. On Saturday, September 22nd, 2007, the gang at 85 West Ashland (Val, Carolyn & John) threw a giant Oktoborfest bash. As an honorary housemember at the time, I was an integral part of the party planning and hosting and was there hours...days...months prior to the party, setting up.

So when Val's good friend, Andrew, came through the door before the party, I was there, ready to meet him. Well, I wasn't entirely ready, just there. She didn't tell me what a catch he was!!! I was sitting in the kitchen, getting my hair braided (it was Oktoberfest after all!) when a very handsome man wearing a stunning blue shirt walked through the door, arms loaded with booze. We didn't really have too much of a chance to talk at first, with me in full hosting duty meeting and greeting, however we did have a chance to exchange a few flirty remarks here and there.

The party continued with us being two of the four brave souls to venture into the sidewalk beer games (dizzy bat included). We then participated in a wild Polka-off (he ended up winning with Carolyn, my Polka skills aren't quite up to snuff) and ate delicious German food.

The tides changed, and thankfully so, when I changed from my Oktoberfest / Good Will garb into a simple tank top and jeans. Apparently, I had looked um, less then my usual spectacular self in such and this dress change caught his eye. After I boldly asked him to join me in getting our butt's kicked at Foosball, he was mine! Things just clicked and I knew that something great was going to happen.

The story moves on from there - I went to Europe for 3 weeks and was sure that he would meet someone else by the time I got back. However, after emailing back and forth through vacation, we arranged to go to a Halloween party together THE DAY I GOT BACK (where we also played some Foos)! Needless to say, we have not gone a weekend without seeing each other since.

He claims that after the Halloween party he knew he would marry me :) I think I believe him.

Don't forget that you definitely staked out your territory upon my arrival I was immediately told and I quote, "blue shirt is mine."
